Guatemalan Embassy in Jakarta Reopened

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno LP Marsudi together with Guatemalan Foreign Minister Sandra Erica Jovel Polanco inaugurated the Guatemalan Embassy to Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday night.

The Guatemalan Embassy for Indonesia was first opened 26 years ago in 1992. A year after its opening, the embassy was closed in 1993.

The inauguration procession of the Embassy of Guatemala was carried out with ribbon cutting by Indonesian Foreign Minister and Guatemalan Foreign Minister, followed by remarks and embassy receptions.

Indonesian Foreign Minister in her speech welcomed the opening of the embassy and was expected to be able to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Guetemala.

“I warmly welcome and congratulate on the reopening of Guatemala Embassy in Jakarta,” Retno said.

Political relations between the two countries have been going very well, even without embassies in their respective capitals.

Meanwhile, Guatemalan Foreign Minister said, the choice of Jakarta as the seat of embassy in the Southeast Asian region was also a recognition of Jakarta as the capital of ASEAN.

“The opening of the embassy will be a symbol of the closeness of the two countries although separated by a considerable distance,” said Sandra. (T/Sj/P2)
