Gaza: Passenger Traffic At Rafah Crossing Slightly Improved In 2016
Gaza, 27 Rabi’ul Akhir 1438/26 January 2017 (MINA) – The movement of passengers through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt has seen an improvement in 2016 compared with 2015, albeit slightly.
According to a statistical report released by the authority of border affairs in Gaza, 42,837 passengers were able to travel in both directions through the crossing in 2016, which marked an increase in the opening days of the crossing, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported,
The Egyptian authorities opened the crossing during 41 days last year and 32 days in 2015, the report said.
However, the Egyptian authorities allowed the arrival of passengers in Gaza during only six days and opened the crossing 17 times for entry of bodies belonging to patients and wounded people who died during medical trips abroad.
The crossing was also opened eight times for visiting delegations to Gaza and four days during the hajj season for the departure of pilgrims to the holy lands in Saudi Arabia.(T/R04/RS05)
