Brussels, MINA – The European Union High Representative Josep Borrell on Friday called for the Israeli occupation to stop building settlements and postpone the announcement of construction tenders and the expansion of illegal settlements.

Borrel’s call came in response to Israel’s announcement of a construction plan for new housing units in Area E1, located east of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, as well as hundreds of units in the settlements of Givat Hamatos and Har Homa in southern Jerusalem, Wafa reported on Friday.

“The construction of settlements in these areas, will reduce the geography and territory between East Jerusalem and the West Bank,” Borrel said in a press release. “Construction activities in the E1 area will sever ties between the North and South West Bank.”
