London, 15 Shaban 1436/2 June 2015 (MINA) –  ِA non-profit British group has announced recently the launch of 2015 awards dedicated to celebrate the contributions and achievements of British imams and scholars in the community.

Highlighting positive work by Muslim scholars in the community, the event will be held at the Waterlily in London on June 12, International Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

“British Imams and Scholars undertake excellent and often unrecognized work, striving to make our communities and society a better place for everyone,” the organizing body of the British Imams and Scholars Contributions and Achievements (BISCA) said in a statement.

“In light of this BISCA, supported by organizations such as the Muslim Council of Britain, CB, MAB, Islamic Relief, Muslim Aid, Muslim Council of Wales, MEND and others, are hosting a fantastic event to highlight and celebrate some of their wonderful work,” the statement added.

The idea of the awards was first suggested to honor Muslim scholars who work quietly in the British Muslim community, steadfastly contributing to making it better and prosperous for all.

“Without these pillars of our community and the work that they do daily, we would not be able to accomplish our collective goals and achieve our vision for a more inclusive, vibrant and diverse British society,” BISCA said on its website.

Moreover, the event aimed at highlighting positive personalities, male and female, within the British society and their support to creating a better, inclusive and tolerant society for all.

The awards given to the imams and scholars will be basically in the fields of chaplaincy work, women’s empowerment, community cohesion, inter-faith, and media engagement. Awards will be based on nominations given by members of the public who have felt an Imam or Scholar deserves recognition based on the categories selected by BISCA.
