AOHR CALSS ON PA TO REVEAL FATE OF POLITICAL DETAINEE IN ITS JAILS
Al-Khalil, 16 Safar 1436/19 December 2014 (MINA) – The London-based Arab organization for human rights (AOHR) demanded the Palestinian Authority (PA) to reveal the fate of political detainee Mohamed Amer, a university student, and immediately release him.
In a press release, the Arab organization said it had received a complaint from the family of the detainee, who is a third-level student of engineering at Palestine Polytechnic university in al-Khalil, that its son was kidnapped by the PA intelligence apparatus on the first of December from a student apartment.
Three days later, the family added, its lawyer was able to have its son released, but the intelligence took him prisoner again and transferred him to the central detention center in Jericho, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Friday.
On December 14, he was released again from the detention center and went back to the student apartment in al-Khalil before a security force from the PA intelligence violently stormed the place, physically and verbally assaulted him, and took him in chains to an unknown place.
According to the complaint, Mohamed’s mother after the last arrest of her son, received a phone call from an anonymous person telling her that her son was taken in poor health condition to hospital in Ramallah three times.
The mother said she had no proof that what she was told over the phone was true, but such news made the family constantly feel worried about Mohamed, especially since the family and the lawyer do not know his whereabouts and are not allowed to visit him.
In a separate incident, PA security forces on Wednesday opened fire at Palestinian students from the Islamic student bloc of Hamas as they were leaving Birzeit university in Ramallah city, with no reported injuries.
The Palestinian information center was told that soldiers from the PA preventive security apparatus chased students from the Islamic bloc amid gunfire after they left the campus.
Luckily, the students were able to return to the campus and hide there until the soldiers left the area.
The incident took place on the same day after the student bloc of Hamas at the university organized a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Movement.
The student bloc of Hamas, in turn, held the management of the university fully responsible for protecting its students.(T/P008/P3)
