DFLP CALLS FOR INTERNATIONALIZING THE PRISONERS’ ISSUE
Al-Khalil, 24 Rabi’ul Awwal 1436/15 January 2015 (MINA) – The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) called on the international community, along with the signatories of the Fourth Geneva Convention, to put an end to the Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners.
The DFLP Deputy Secretary General Qais Abu Laila said the Israeli Occupation Authority had escalated the administrative detention policy during the past year. 500 Palestinians were held in administrative detention with no trials or charges brought against them. The increase was estimated at 245% compared to the previous year, he added, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Abu Laila said, in a press release on Wednesday, that quick action should have been taken regarding this issue, including addressing the international organizations in order to halt the policy of administrative detention adopted by Israel.
He stressed the need for the formulation and implementation of a Palestinian strategy to internationalize the issue of Palestinian prisoners and to mobilize international solidarity campaigns in this regard.
He called for the enforcement of the related provisions of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions in order to ensure the rights of Palestinian civilians held in Israeli jails, especially women, children, the elderly as well as Palestinian MPs. (T/P007/P3)
