Strengthening Indo-Pacific Concept, Indonesia Holds High Level Dialogue

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia for the first time will hold a High Level Dialogue on Indo-Pacific Cooperation (HLDIPC) on Wednesday, in order to strengthen cooperation in the Indo Pacific concept.

This informal meeting will be attended by ministerial and echelon I officials from 18 countries such as the United States, Australia, India, Japan, China, Korea Transfers, Russia, New Zealand and 10 ASEAN members.

Then, the dialogue will be opened by Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

“The aim of HLDIPC is to increase cooperation and trust building in the Pacific and Indian Ocean areas which lead to mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of transparency, inclusiveness and respect for international law,” explained the Director General of the Asia Pacific and Africa Ministry of Foreign Affairs Desra Percaya, in Jakarta, Monday.

In addition, the meeting is a concrete effort of the Indonesian government to strengthen the mechanism of dialogue within the ASEAN framework for deeper and inclusive cooperation.

The structure of the dialogue forum will be divided into form of a public debate led by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno LP Marsudi. Each delegation will convey their views on the Indo-Pacific.

Meanhile, the second structure in a form of debate based on themes such as the goal of sustainable development, maritime cooperation, infrastructure and connectivity that is filled by several ministries and academics.

In line with Desra, Head of BPPK, Siswo Pramono said this dialogue was one of the processes to encourage confidence building.

“Many concepts are developing about the Indo Pacific. India, Japan, and China have it. South Korea too. Be dynamic and change,” Siswo said.

However, with this dialogue, 18 countries in the East Asian Summit will sit and discuss the Indo Pacific concept. (L/Sj/P2)
