BOSTON BOMB SUSPECT TSARNAEV PLEADS NOT GUILTY
Boston, 3 Ramadan 1434/11 July 2013 (MINA) – Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleads not guilty to all terrorism indictment that carries the possibility of the death penalty in a U.S. District Court in Boston.
Tsarnaev entered the plea in his first public appearance since the April 15 attack in the Joseph Moakley courthouse on Wednesday, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
The Boston Globe reported, about 30 bombing victims present in the courtroom. Tsarnaev said the plea “not guilty” seven times with a thick Russian accent to all charges, including using a weapon of mass destruction.
His attorney, Judy Clarke, sought to enter the pleas on his behalf, but US Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler ordered Tsarnaev to answer himself. The judge also indicated that any victims had the opportunity to speak at the brief hearing, but no one did.
19-year-old Tsarnaev is facing thirty federal charges including using a weapon of mass destruction to kill. Most of the charges could bring the death penalty.
American authorities have accused Dzhokhar and his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, who was killed by police forces in Watertown, of allegedly carrying out two bombings in Boston on April 15, 2013
The Boston Marathon bombings killed three people and injured more than 260 others.
About a dozen people had gathered outside the court calling for a fair trial and even freeing Tsarnaev as police forces took him to the court
They were chanting “Justice for Dzhokhar’’ and “Give him his freedom back’’.
“I just think so many of his rights were violated. They almost murdered an unarmed kid in a boat,” said 23-year-old Lacey Buckley.
Buckley added that she came because she believes Tsarnaev is innocent. (T/P09/E1).
