About 60.000 Palestinians Observe Friday Prayers At Aqsa Mosque

Al-Quds, 13 Rabi’ul Akhir 1437/23 January 2015 (MINA) – Tens of thousands of Palestinian citizens performed the Friday prayers at the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem, amid tight Israeli security measures in the holy city.

According to local sources, about 60 thousand Palestinians, including 200 elderly citizens from the Gaza Strip, were able to attend the Friday Khutba (sermon) and perform the prayers at the Aqsa Mosque, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Meanwhile, the Israeli police deployed scores of its elements in and around the Old City of Jerusalem and in the vicinity of the Mosque, where they embarked on searching young men on different streets.

Israeli drones were also seen overflying the airspace of Jerusalem.

During his Friday Khutba, Sheikh Ismail Nawahdah called on the Arabs and Muslims to assume their responsibilities towards Jerusalem and move to liberate it from the occupation.

Sheikh Nawahdah warned of the Judaization measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities against the historical, religious, and cultural sites in Jerusalem, and called on the Muslims and Arabs to support the steadfastness of its people.

In another context, Palestinian young men organized in the afternoon today a protest in the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards to denounce the detention of Palestinian hunger-striking journalist Mohamed al-Qeiq as well as the bodies of some Jerusalemite martyrs.(T/P008/R03)
