Tangerang, MINA – Around 3,000 workers in Tangerang Regency were laid off in the first quarter of 2025 (January–early March), with PT Victory Chingluh Indonesia recording the highest number of job cuts.
Rudi Hartono, Head of the Tangerang Regency Manpower Office, revealed that the layoffs were driven by a global economic downturn, which has significantly impacted industries in the region. Labor-intensive, export-oriented industries have been the most affected, primarily due to the imbalance between production and global demand in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.
The crisis follows earlier job cuts in Tangerang, Subang, and Bandung regencies, where three footwear, textile, and yarn companies announced mass layoffs affecting 4,050 workers.
This trend is not new in Tangerang. In 2023, PT Tuntex Garment Indonesia shut down operations, laying off 1,163 workers. During the COVID-19 pandemic 2020, 10,389 workers lost their jobs, while 8,698 others were furloughed.

The Tangerang Regency Government is closely monitoring the situation and working on solutions to minimize the impact on workers. Efforts include dialogues with companies and seeking alternative employment opportunities for affected workers. []
