20 PALESTINIAN DETAINEES HELD IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT

Nablus, 26 Rabi’ul Akhir 1435/26 February 2014 (MINA) –  20 Palestinian detainees are currently held in solitary confinement in different Israeli jails for different time periods, Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs revealed.

The Ministry’s report pointed out that four detainees are held in isolation in Eshel prison, while two detainees are being held in Ramle solitary confinement. The remaining prisoners are isolated in different Israeli jails.

The Ministry condemned the Israeli isolation policy practiced against Palestinian detainees in violation of previous agreements reached between the Captive Movement and Israeli authorities to put an end to solitary confinement policy.

Previously, a Jerusalemite prisoner, Jihad al-Tawil-47-from Ras al-Amoud neighborhood died due to sustaining unconsciousness after being assaulted when a special Israeli occupation force broke into Beersheba prison two weeks ago.

Spokesperson of Wadi Helwa Information Centre said that al-Tawils headed yesterday evening to the hospital to visit their son who was in a critical condition. After leaving the hospital, the family was told by phone that al-Tawil died.

The family said that  their son was arrested at the end of last year and sentenced for 3 months due to “driving a vehicle without license.” Israeli forces broke into the prison and directly assaulted al-Tawil, beat him and sprinkled pepper gas at him. As a result, al-Tawil sustained serious injuries and was transferred to hospital for treatment.

The family called for investigations to find out the facts about the accident confirming that he was not suffering any health troubles before, ALRAY, Palestinian Media Agency reported as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Prisoner’s Club Society mourned al-Tawil pointing out that the assault represents continued aggressive actions of the Israeli occupation against all those who are arrested.(T/P03/P04)
