1400 Palestinian Women Arrested Since 2000: Report

Gaza, 6 Jumadil Akhir 1437/ 15 March 2016 (MINA) – Israeli occupation forces has arrested about 1400 Palestinian women since Al-Aqsa uprising in 2000, Palestinian official report stated on Wednesday.

The report published by Palestinian Prisoners Commission noted that the IOF arrested wives, mothers and even elderly women. It also arrested minor girls, students, academic and social figures, as well as Parliament members.

The consistency of arresting Palestinian women has been in raise since 2000, noting that 118 women has been arrested recently, nine of them were arrested  despite their wounds and four delivered their babies while being arrested in harsh conditions.

The report showed that there are 13 Palestinian minor girls in Israeli jails and the youngest is Dima Al-Wawee,12, who was sentenced to four months and a fine of NIS 8.000. The Palestinian parliament member Khaledah Jarar was sentenced to 15 months.

Meanwhile the detainee Lina al-Jarbounee who has been arrested for 14 years is considered the oldest one and served the longest terms in Israeli jails.

The report also noted that Fatema Bernawee , arrested in 1967, is the first arrested Palestinian women ; she was released after serving ten years in Israeli jails.

Female Prisoners: Over the last 43 years, an estimated 10,000 Palestinian women have been arrested and/or detained under Israeli military orders.. In detention, Palestinian female prisoners constantly face torture, humiliation and horrendous living conditions. After going through the interrogation process,  most Palestinian women prisoners are transferred to one of two prisons: Damon  or Hasharon-Telmond Prison.(T/hna/R07 )
