Jakarta, MINA — The Government of Indonesia regretted the decision of the United States to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Agreement between Iran and the UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany (P5+1).

The JCPOA is an important achievement of diplomacy that can contribute to the promotion of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and maintain peace as well as stability in the region and in the world., Antara News reported, citing the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Wednesday.

“Indonesia hopes other states’ parties of the JCPOA would continue to honor their commitment, and the international community would maintain support for the agreement, it stated.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that President Donald Trump has made his decision by stating that the US is going to withdraw from the multinational agreement to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons.

The US will withdraw from Iran nuclear pact negotiated in 2015 and reimpose sanctions it had previously withdrawn.

Trump called the deal “defective” at its core.

The 2015 agreement, worked out by the United States, five other world powers, and Iran, had lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for limiting its nuclear program.

The pact, which is the fruit of more than a decade of diplomacy, was designed to prevent Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb.

Trump complained that the deal, the signature foreign policy achievement of his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama, did not address Iran’s ballistic missile program, its nuclear activities beyond 2025, or its role in conflicts in Yemen and Syria, Reuters reported. (T/RS5/RS1)
