New Delhi , 23  Jumadal Awwal 1437/02 March 2016 (MINA) – Names of ten Muslims figure in the list of 100 l most powerful Indian prepared by Indian Express Power List for the year 2016.

Among the 100 people,PM Narendra Modi hogs the first spot followed by Mohan Bhagwat the chief of the RSS and Amit Shah, BJP Chief.

Ravish Kumar, the popular journalist bags the last spot that is 100th. Among the powerful Muslims, Mehbooba Mufti finds the top slot that is 14th spot followed by Ghulam Nabi Azad 28th, Asaduddin Owaisi 59th, Ahmad Patel 67th, Badruddin Ajmal 68th, Aamir Khan 72nd. Azim Premji 77th, Salman Khan 83rd, Sania Mirza 85th and Shahrukh Khan 97th.

These Muslims have found their names in the list of powerful people because they have impacted the Indians in their own way, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) quoted The Siasat Daily as reporting.

Mehbooba Mufti, the daughter of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the leader of PDP which emerged as the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir in the 2014 elections. If everything goes well, she may become the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir which she is trying to bargain with top BJP leadership and Union ministries for a deal which will benefit her party in the long run.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, 67-year-old soft-spoken congress leader is considered aggressive but not provocative or quarrelsome. He also has a good rapport with leaders across parties, which helps mount a united offensive against the government. He played an active role in recently concluded election in Bihar which was swept by Mahagathbandhan. Azad is considered as crisis Manager and always stood by the side of Sonia Gandhi.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the firebrand MP from Hyderabad has transformed his party into a national one making inroads into Maharashtra and winning two seats. He also fought Bihar election but unsuccessfully as he failed to open an account.His image is now as a Muslim face in the politics of the country.

Ahmad Patel, the veteran Congress leader plays a big role in decision-making within the party and in drawing up its policies and positions.He is a trusted lieutenant, is a key influence on the party president Sonia Gandhi.

Badruddin Ajmal, the largest opposition party in Assam holds much clout in the politics of Assam.He , holds 18 seats in the 126-member House in the state and has risen rapidly in the last 10 years. He has also won three seats in Lok Sabha in 2014.

Aamir Khan, the famed Bollywood star has given many hits and his TV programme Satyamev Jayate made a much impact on the psyche of the countrymen at large. He was in the news for lending the strongest voice to the intolerance debate in the country.

Azim Premji, the owner of Wipro figured in Forbes’s first-ever list of 100 richest people in technology, dominated by Americans, with Microsoft founder Bill Gates at the top.  He is the leading philanthropist in India committing 21 per cent of his stake in the company for charity. He earmarked 18 per cent more of it in 2015.

Salman Khan, the much famed another Bollywood actor was in the news for wrong reasons in the 13-year-old hit-and-run case and later got acquittal by Mumbai High court.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo were the biggest hits of the year also.

Sania Mirza, the Tennis ace became World No. 1 in doubles, along with Martina Hingis. She won Wimbledon, the US Open and this year’s Australian Open titles.

Shahrukh Khan, the Romantic Bollywood actor holds much sway on the imagination of the youth of the country.He commands much fan following second only to Narendra Modi on Twitter. He was also in the news for his views on intolerance debate in the country. (R07/R01)
