The Meeting of Interfaith Leaders from Throughout Indonesia to Be Held Next Month

Jakarta, MINA – At least 450 religious leaders from various religions in Indonesia will hold a grand meeting in Jakarta in order to strengthen the harmony that recently had been hit by various discordant issues.

The meeting in the form of congress (Mubes) will be held on
8-10 February 2018 at hotel Sahid Jakarta.

According to the Presidential Envoy for Dialogue and Cooperation of Inter Religion and Civilization (UKP-DKAAP) Din Syamsuddin, the Mubes will involve 9 interfaith leaders who are members of the steering committee ranging from representatives of Islam, Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist and Kong Wu Chu .

“For hundreds of participants in attendance will be proposed by an alliance of respective religion,” said Din to the media in Jakarta, Thursday (11/1).

The steering committee acknowledged that there is currently tension between people due to the political issue of the country. Therefore, the adherents of the various religions in the country need to re-establish the well-constructed relationship of concord for decades in a joint meeting.

“This Mubes will be a heart to heart dialogue,” he added.

The meeting will also result in a joint declaration that will be handed over to President Joko Widodo at the closing ceremony.

On the 11th of this month, all citizens in Indonesia took part in the commemoration of the Global Interfaith Harmony Week initiated by the United Nations since 2010 every first week of February. (L/RE1/RS5)
