PM Hamdallah Concludes Official Visit to Gaza
Gaza, MINA – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah concluded on Thursday a four-day official visit to the Gaza Strip and headed back to Ramallah, the base of his government, WAFA reported.
Hamdallah, along with his cabinet ministers, arrived in the besieged coastal enclave on Monday coming from Ramallah after Hamas, the de facto authority in Gaza, dissolved the administrative committee it had formed to run the affairs of Gaza to make way for Hamdallah’s government to assume full duties in the Strip.
On Tuesday, the government held its first meeting in Gaza for the first time in three years.
During his stay in Gaza, Hamdallah oversaw the handover of the various Gaza-based government offices to the ministers and met with a broad sector of the Gazan society, including businessmen, while visiting vital centers, such as hospitals.
The cabinet’s trip to Gaza ushered in a new chapter in intra-Palestinian reconciliation and brought hope that 10 years of division between the West Bank and Gaza Strip is finally going to end.
Details of the reconciliation are going to be discussed on Tuesday when officials from Fatah and Hamas meet in Cairo to resolve differences over important issues such a security in Gaza, the border crossings, and weapons of Hamas militias. (T/RS5/RS1)
