Ramallah, MINA – The Palestinian presidency on Thursday welcomed the UN General Assembly’s resolution, which rejected US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the American embassy to the city.

The resolution by UNGA showed again that the international community stands in solidarity with Palestinians, KUNA reported, citing a press statement of Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina after the UNGA move.

He added that threats and blackmailing remarks didn’t prevent the international community from taking such a move which is in line with the previous UN resolutions.

The resolution once again emphasizes that the fair Palestinian cause is supported by the international legitimacy, and no other resolution by any other body can change the reality of Jerusalem, which has been an occupied land, he said.

We will continue our efforts at the UN and all international arenas until we put an end to the Israeli occupation and set up our Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Abu Rudeina noted.

He thanked the 128 countries, which voted in favor of the resolution and affirmed their full support for the international legitimacy and the right of Palestinian people to attain their freedom and independence.

During an exceptional session today, the UNGA adopted a resolution annulling Trump’s decision on Jerusalem.

Trump earlier threatened that he would cut financial aid to countries intending to vote for the UNGA resolution. (T/RS5/RS1)
