Kuala Lumpur, MINA – International as well as Malaysian NGOs today held an emergency meeting to discuss and set an action over Israeli newly violation towards Palestinian following Gaza Return March (GRM) protest entered its second week.

“The murderous reaction by the Israeli , shoot to kill operation , is an extreme barbaric policy against unarmed Palestinian people who are demanding their right of return to the homeland in commemoration of the Palestinian Land Day,” Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid Coordinator Malaysian GRM Support Group stated

With this march, Palestinians in Gaza are reminding the world that they cannot be seating idle and accept their fated predicament of over 11 years of blockade. They and their fellow Palestinian refugees continue to hold rights under international law. UN resolution 194 affirmed the Palestinian right of return.

At least 48 organisations who attended the meeting urged governments to demand UN break the siege on Gaza and to deploy aid to Gaza.  Beside call for UN to issued condemnation towards Israel.

The GRM which commenced on the 30st March 2018 involving thousands of Palestinians marching to the border with illegal Israel is a legitimate initiative based on the United Nation General Assembly Resolution 194 which resolved that “refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible.” (Article 11).

They added, GRM portrays a great achievement by the Palestinians when mainstreams news channels , the security experts ( retired generals on the payroll of arms manufacturers and the pro Israel lobby ) are speechless at the peaceful movement and yet impactful initiative of the GRM.

Unarmed Palestinians are not allowing the occupying power to determine their mode of resistance. The Palestinians have the right to use whatever means necessary or combinations of options from force, to speaking out, to demonstrations, to praying in their hearts.

In this courageous move the Palestinians face the Israel forces who are willing to test their new weapons on real people.

“GRM is a wake up call to the world. Witnessing flag waving Palestinians gunned down by Israel forces with “ butterfly bullets” which is internationally illegal . Not doing anything will tantamount to be in complicit with the murderers,” the statement added.

“We affirm that this event is not affiliated with any political party and that it was a peaceful act calling for the right of return. In response, the Israeli government  called the march a “hostile provocation” by Hamas.”

Israel positioned snipers with live ammunition and “riot dispersal gear” behind the safety of one of the most securitised fences in the world.

Media has confirmed the march remained predominantly peaceful. Nonetheless, Israel responded with lethal force. More than 1,000 Palestinians were injured and scores killed.

Israel believes that it is within its rights to defend its borders in this way. But Gaza is not a separate nation neighbouring Israel. It is a territory under occupation. Even though Israel withdrew its settlers in 2005, it continues to maintain effective control of the strip.

“We belief Palestinians in Gaza marched not towards the border with Israel, but rather towards the fence that has kept them segregated and imprisoned. Diplomats all over the world might shrug away the right of return as a right that cannot be exercised. Yet for the people on the ground, addressing the injustices of 1948 remains at the heart of their quest for freedom, justice and equality,” they added.

“We are perturbed by the  lame statement by UN Secretary General , Antonia Guteres on the massacre in the days of the march requesting for and independent investigation. It is unacceptable that while he is well informed of the Resolution 194 and how the Israel reacted violantly on the march , could only call for an investigation.”(L/RE1/RS5)
