ISRAELI POLICE DETAIN 5 PALESTINIANS FROM JERUSALEM
Al-Quds (Jerusalem), 12 Shaban 1436/30 May 2015 (MINA) – The Israeli police detained five Palestinians from the Beit Hanina neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem late Thursday.
The Israeli police said that forces detained the five minors on suspicions of throwing Molotov cocktails at the home of an Israeli settler in the area, Ma’an News Agency reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).
Residents of Beit Hanina regularly encounter Israeli forces in the area due to the trend of increasing presence of settlers who often received armed protection funded by the Israeli government.
Takeover of homes by Israeli settlers in the Palestinian neighborhood is part of an ongoing government policy aimed to maintain a Jewish majority in Jerusalem, by way of pushing Palestinians out of occupied East Jerusalem through home demolition, eviction, and other policies.
Over 20 Palestinians were detained from throughout occupied East Jerusalem during Monday and Tuesday this week, shortly after a 19-year-old Palestinian was arrested Sunday over the suspected stabbing of two 17-year-old Israelis in Jerusalem’s Old City.
In the second half of 2014, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel reported that over 1,184 Palestinians were detained in occupied East Jerusalem, including 406 children, with indictments submitted against 338 of those arrested. (T/P010/R04)
