New York, MINA – A report that has been released by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, delivered to the UN Security Council showed 59 Palestinian children were killed and 2,756 others injured by Israeli forces last year.

“I condemn the increasing number of children victims, which is often caused by Israeli attacks in densely populated areas and civilian facilities, including schools and hospitals,” Guterres said in the report, as quoted by Wafa on Monday, July 29.

Diplomats said Israel had put pressure on the past few years to avoid blacklisting, but they were unsuccessful.

Guterres also said based on Reuters reports, the highest number of Palestinian children killed or injured was in 2014, even though Israel was not blacklisted in the annex to Children in Armed Conflict annual report.

The UN mission for Israel did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the report. But in 2015, the UN condemned Israel for its 2014 military attack on Gaza.

Therefore, Guterres urged Israel to immediately implement preventive measures and safeguards to end the excessive use of forces. (T/Sj/P2)
