Film Depicting Bugis Warriors Set to Begin Shooting in Malaysia and Makassar
Kuala Lumpur, 20 Rajab 1437/28 April 2016 (MINA) – The history of the struggle of Malay warriors – especially from the Bugis community – in helping to uphold the Malay Sultanate in the archipelago will be highlighted in the latest local epic feature ‘Putera Makassar Mahkota Bugis’.
The film’s producer Asmadie Mokhadar said the film which was adapted from the text of ‘Tuhfat al-Nafis’, centers around the adventures of five heroes of Makassar, Indonesia to Malaya to help the Johor Sultanate which faced a power struggle, Bernama was quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
“The heroes nicknamed ‘Daeng Lima Bersaudara’ (The Five Daeng Brothers) were described as experts in silat, wielding weapons and possessed high skills in navigation. In fact, the origins of silat gayong in Malaysia also comes from them,” he said.
Asmadie said the film, which has received the consent of the Sultan of Johor, is almost 80 per cent action, and the rest is dialogues which use the traditional Malay and Bugis language.
“The film’s shooting will be done in Kedah, Makassar and Johor set in the year 1699,” he told reporters after the launching event of the film here, last night.
The film costing RM20 million will begin filming in May this year, and will be released simultaneously in theaters across the country, Indonesia, Thailand and China on Aug 31, 2017. (T/R07/R01)
