Egypt Expresses Readiness to Mediate Palestinian National Dialague

Cairo, 17 Safar 1438/17 November 2016 (MINA) – Egypt expressed on Wednesday readiness to host and mediate a national dialogue between Palestinian political forces to help reunite Palestinian people to face the impending challenges.

This announced was made by Egypt’s general intelligence chief Khaled Fawzy during his reception of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad delegation, headed by its secretary general Ramadan Shallah, in Cairo today.

The Egyptian state news agency MENA, reported that both sides discussed developments related to the Palestinian cause, where Shallah updated Fawzy on the organisation’s efforts and suggestions for a Palestinian reconciliation.

Fawzy said the Palestinian cause remains a priority for Egyptian foreign policy, stressing on Egypt’s keenness on the unity of Palestinian forces, as well as its support to all efforts related to achieving the independence of the Palestinian people.

For his part, Shallah and his accompanying delegation briefed the Egyptian officials about the “circumstances that the Palestinians were facing in Gaza strip and what the occupation forces were doing in terms of oppressive policies and procedures.”

The delegation praised Egypt’s role in working towards Palestinian unity, welcoming Egypt’s decision on the opening of the border crossing. (T/R07/R01)
