Death Toll from Al Khoziny Boarding School Collapse Rises to 63, Including Six Body Parts

Sidoarjo, MINA – The search for victims following the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building in Buduran, Sidoarjo, is still ongoing on the eighth day after the incident.

As of Monday afternoon, October 6, 2025, the total number of fatalities has reached 63 people, which includes six body parts that have not yet been identified as belonging to the same individual or different individuals.

Subdirector of Search and Rescue Operations Guidance and Control for Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), Emi Freezer, stated that during today’s search, the joint team managed to evacuate 10 intact bodies and 1 body part from the rubble in sectors A2 and A3.

“With today’s additions, the total number of deceased victims now stands at 63 people. Meanwhile, the number of body parts found is six,” he said.

All bodies have been transported to Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya for the identification process by the East Java Regional Police DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) team.

As of 5:39 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the total number of victims found has reached 167 people, with a breakdown of 104 survivors and 63 deceased (including the body parts).

Freezer added that the evacuation process is now focused on the northern part of the building, which is an area not directly connected to the main structure. He also explained that the death toll could still increase, given that the identification of the body parts is not yet complete.

“It cannot yet be confirmed whether the body parts found belong to the same victim or different victims,” he added.

Basarnas continues to coordinate with elements of the TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces), Polri (National Police), and technical teams to ensure the search proceeds safely, given that some structural parts of the building are still attached and risk collapsing again.[]
