New York, 08 Muharram 1438/09 October 2016 (MINA) – UN Security Council failed for the second time Saturday to adopt a resolution on Aleppo.

The Russian-drafted resolution, failed to be adopted today since it only obtained four votes with, nine against and two abstentions.

The Russian draft calls for the urgent need for a separation of moderate rebels from terrorist groups such as Al-Nusra in Aleppo.

It denied earlier the French draft that demands that all parties immediately end all aerial bombardment of and military flights over Aleppo city.

After the vote, British Ambassador to the UN Matthew Rycroft told Russia, the President of the current month of the Council, a lonely veto, then just four votes in favor of the Russian resolution is a “double humiliation”.

Russia for the fifth time in five-years since the beginning of the Syrian dispute, vetoed a UN Security Council resolution.

The Security Council called for an urgent meeting to vote on two competing resolutions, one is drafted by France and Spain, and co-sponsored by over 35 countries, and another by Russia.

The French resolution was vetoed by Russia, voted against by Venezuela, abstained by Angola and China and the other 11 voted with. (T/R07/R01)
