Thohir Enters Indonesian Politics
Jakarta, MINA -Inter President Erick Thohir has officially been appointed campaign manager for Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s re-election bid.
Although Thohir only owns 30 per cent of the Serie A club and does not seem particularly involved in decisions, leaving that to Chinese conglomerate Suning Group, he is still technically the President of Inter and has been since 2013, Football Italia reported.
The 48-year-old had also owned MLS club DC United until last month and hit the headlines in Indonesia recently by organising the Asian Games.
President of Indonesia Widodo announced today that he has appointed Thohir his campaign manager ahead of next year’s election.
“Erick Thohir is a successful businessman who owns a media company, football clubs, basketball teams and others. One thing is for sure, he is successful in everything he leads,” declared Widodo.
Thohir noted he had been “asked to contribute in terms of management and ideas. We want a dignified democracy to show the world Indonesia’s capabilities.” (T/RS5/RS1)
