PM Najib Praises Badminton Mixed Doubles Pair For Entering Final

Chang Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying became the first Malaysian Mixed Doubles pair to make the Olympic final.

Kuala Lumpur,13 Dzulqa’dah 1437/16 August 2016 (MINA) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has congratulated the Malaysian mixed doubles badminton team that advanced to the final of the event in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“Congratulations Chan Peng Soon & @gohliuying for taking #MAS to the final!What a performance! Another step to the #Olympics #Rio2016 gold. #KamiTeamMalaysia,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying in a post on his Twitter account @NajibRazak today.

Malaysia confirmed at least a second silver medal at the games after the mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying advanced to the final on Monday.

The Malaysian pair beat Xu Chen-Maj Jin of China, 21-12, 21-19 in a semi-final.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying will face Tontowi Ahmad-Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia in the final on Wednesday.

The Indonesian pair entered the final after beating China’s seeded pair of Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei 21-16, 21-15 in the other semi-final.  (T/R07/R01)
