US Strongly Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Egypt

Washington, MINA – The US strongly condemned Saturday the terrorist attack in Egypt near the Bahariya Oasis that killed dozens of Egyptian security forces and wounded many others.

“The United States stands with Egypt at this difficult time, as we continue to work together to fight the scourge of terrorism,” State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement.

“We offer our profound condolences to the families of the deceased and the government and people of Egypt, and extend our best wishes for the full and speedy recovery of those injured,” she remarked.

From Brussels, KUNA reported that the European Union condemned the attack on Egyptian security forces in the Western Desert where more than 50 police officers and conscripts were killed.

“As we continue to follow developments on the ground, the EU reiterates that it stands with the Egyptian people and authorities in facing terrorism,” said Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, in a statement.

“The European Union extends its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of those killed and injured,” added the brief statement. (T/RS5/RS1)
