UAE Organizes Iftar Project in Nepal

Kathmandu, 26 Ramadan 1437/02 July 2016 (MINA) – The UAE Embassy in Kathmandu is overseeing an iftar project funded by the Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment to benefit thousands of Nepalese in the capital and other Nepalese cities throughout the fasting month of Ramadan in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Ambassador of the UAE to Nepal, Saeed Hamdan Al Naqbi, stressed that the UAE’s charity efforts received a warm official and popular welcome.

He noted that the efforts will continue in a number of poor areas to ease the suffering of the underprivileged and promote the Islamic values of solidarity and fraternity.

The ambassador added that 1000 meals a day were offered to Nepalese Muslims at iftar banquets since the beginning of Ramadan.

The beneficiaries praised the UAE for the iftar projects aimed at building bridges among Muslims across the world.

Muslims, who form about 5 percent of Nepal’s 30 million population, are one of the country’s most disadvantaged groups, and Muslim women are particularly hard hit, WAM reported.

However, many Muslims are feeling positive about what the future may hold. Nepalgunj, which has the largest Muslim population of any of Nepal’s cities, boasts a Muslim community radio station, schools and charitable organisations all run by the minority community. (T/R07/R01)
