Riyadh, 1 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436 | January 22, 2015 (MINA) – A guilt-ridden thief who has stolen gas cylinders from a home in Saudi Arabia has repaid the family in cash.

The turnaround unfolded on Monday when an envelope was discovered at the house from which the cylinders were stolen.

“My friend and I stole gas cylinders from this house,” the anonymous thief wrote on the envelope. “My friend died after the theft and we urge you to forgive us now and in the hereafter. You will find inside this envelope the money for the gas cylinders,” he wrote, Gulfnews quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Amani Al Dawood, whose gas cylinders were stolen, said on her Twitter account that her family found the envelope with SR 500 (Dh489) at their home.

“The letter is an outstanding example of conscience awakening and loyalty towards friends,” she said, local news site Al Marsad reported on Tuesday.

Social network users praised the man for sending the money, insisting that “it is never too late to repent and ask for forgiveness”.(T/P009/P3)
