Doha, MINA – Qatar has officially begun legal proceedings in response to what it described as an Israeli attack on its territory, according to statements made by Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at the eighth ministerial meeting of the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue in Sochi, Al-Muraikhi confirmed that Doha has started taking all necessary legal measures against the Israeli aggression and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to promoting justice and defending international law alongside its strategic partners.
“We have been subjected to Israeli aggression that claimed innocent lives in violation of international norms,” Al-Muraikhi stated, calling Israel’s actions “arrogant” and “reckless,” and asserting that they undermine peaceful conflict resolution efforts.
Qatar holds Israel fully responsible for the recent escalation of regional tensions and directly accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of destabilizing the Middle East.

The remarks follow a formal letter sent by Qatar to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Sangjin Kim, South Korea’s acting envoy and current Security Council chair, condemning the Israeli strike in Doha as a cowardly and criminal act in breach of international law.
The UN Security Council is expected to convene later Thursday to address the incident, after postponing its emergency session from Wednesday at Qatar’s request to allow Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to participate. The session was initially called by Algeria and Pakistan.
On Tuesday, Doha issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli attack, calling it a “blatant violation of international law” and a direct threat to Qatar’s sovereignty and security.
The Gulf nation has played a central role in mediating ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas amid Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, which has resulted in more than 64,700 deaths since October 2023. While Hamas confirmed that five of its members were killed in the attack on Doha, its top leadership reportedly survived. []
