Lima, MINA – The Peruvian government has launched a criminal investigation into an Israeli soldier over their involvement in genocide and war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The investigation was prompted by a legal complaint filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a human rights group focused on justice for Palestinian victims. The report was cited by Quds News on Saturday.
Julio César Arbizu González, a prominent human rights lawyer in Peru, filed the complaint on behalf of the Foundation. The soldier under investigation is a member of the Israeli military’s Combat Engineering Corps, a unit reportedly responsible for systematically demolishing civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
The complaint includes video evidence and open-source intelligence, supporting allegations of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide.

This is the first known case in Peru targeting an Israeli citizen over atrocities in Gaza. It reflects Peru’s commitment to international law and the principle of universal jurisdiction, which allows countries to prosecute serious international crimes regardless of where they were committed.
The case also highlights the role of the Israeli Combat Engineering Corps in Gaza, which has allegedly played a central role in leveling entire neighborhoods, displacing thousands, and rendering many areas uninhabitable.
Recent data indicates that around 280,000 families are in urgent need of shelter. Approximately 210,000 housing units have been completely destroyed, 110,000 are uninhabitable, and another 180,000 have been partially damaged.
In addition to housing, Israeli forces have demolished 225 government buildings, 143 schools and educational institutions, and damaged over 360 more. A total of 828 mosques have been leveled, and 167 severely damaged. Three churches have also been targeted.
