Washington 8 Sya’ban 1438/5 May 2017 (MINA) – The Palestinian President expressed his deepest appreciation for President Trump after the productive and in depth meeting that constituted a promising beginning regarding moving forward towards peace during the Trump Administration, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Both President Abbas and President Trump committed to exert every possible effort in order to achieve a historic peace treaty between Palestinians and Israelis.

President Abbas reaffirmed that the Palestinian strategic option is two states on the 1967 borders, the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with the state of Israel in peace and security.
President Abbas reiterated the strategic importance of the Arab Peace Initiative which was re-adopted in the Arab Summit held in Jordan recently.
Both leaders committed to be partners in the fight against extremism and terrorism in order for the peoples of the region to live in peace, prosperity and security.
President Abbas stressed the need for all parties to refrain from any steps that may pre-empt or pre-judge issues reserved for permanent status negotiations, including Jerusalem, settlements, and refugees.

President Abbas reiterated his commitment to end the Palestinian division and to alleviate the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip. (T/RS5/RS1)
