Doha, MINA – Israel targeted a senior Hamas official in Doha, the capital of Qatar on Tuesday while discussions were underway regarding a ceasefire proposal from US President Donald Trump for Gaza.
According to QNN, the Israeli military, in cooperation with the Shin Bet security agency, claimed its air force attempted to assassinate a Hamas leader in the Qatari capital. The military stated that the unnamed Hamas member has been a key figure in the organization’s activities for years.
The strike comes just days after Israeli Military Chief Eyal Zamir threatened to kill Hamas leaders living abroad, and hours after Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel had received the U.S.-proposed Gaza ceasefire plan.
Explosions were reported in the Qatari capital. This marks the first time Israel has conducted a strike in Qatar, a key mediator in the ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. []
