Indonesia Seeks Sponsorship For 2018 Asian Games

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani speaks to reporters after a closed meeting on preparations for the Asian Games 2018.

Jakarta, 03 Rajab 1438/31 March 2017 (MINA) – The Indonesian government is looking for sponsorship to help financing the Asian Games next year in the country, a government minister said here on Thursday, Bernama reported.

The amount of funds sought was no more than 1.5 trillion rupiah (about US$112.65 million) for the regional sport event, said Puan Maharani, coordinating minister for human development and cultural affairs.

“The target is from 1 to 1.5 trillion rupiah funds, and we hope it can be secured,” Puan said at the vice presidential office.

To supervise sponsors’ participation in the sport event, Puan said that the committee would involve the country’s finance and development supervisory agency, and goods and services procurement policy institution.

“All is needed to be supervised to keep the accountability of the establishment of the Asian Games,” she stressed.

The Indonesian government spends about 20 trillion rupiah (about US$1.52 billion) for constructing housing facilities for athletes and renovating infrastructures.

The Asian Games is scheduled to be held from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018 in Indonesia’s capital of Jakarta and Palembang city, the provincial capital of South Sumatra.

The Indonesian authorities have been finalising all preparation for the Asian Games.

The nation was awarded to establish the Games in September 2014, after the withdrawal of original host Vietnam due to economic reason.

Indonesia has set a target of the 8th position in the event with about 15 gold medals. (T/RS5/RS1)
