Palestinian Minister of Youth and Sports Jibril Rajoub and Elshad Iskandarov, the president of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, signed on the dotted line in a lavish ceremony, giving the venerable city of Jerusalem that distinction.

The decision to christen Jerusalem as the “Youth Capital” of 2018 was a measure to lure youngsters to the city and to protect sacrosanct sites found there, Iskandarov said.

“Recent unrest in Jerusalem was also instrumental in giving the city that honor,” he added.

Iskandarov also pointed out that as the “Youth Capital” of 2018, the ancient city would be thrust into the limelight. (T/RS5/RS1)
