Jakarta, 4 Sya’ban 1438/1 May 2017 (MINA) (ANTARA News) – Thousands of Indonesian workers, grouped in the Indonesian Workers Association (Aspek), took to the streets on Monday to call on President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to realize the Nine-Priority (Nawacita) commitments in the field of employment.
Aspek Indonesia President Director Mirah Sumirat remarked here on Monday that President Jokowi had vowed to fulfill the Nawacita commitments for the provision of sustainable employment, and thus, he must realize them, Antara reported.
“President Jokowi must immediately stop the planned closure of labor-intensive projects, as it will result in the layoffs of thousands of workers. The plan runs counter to the Nawacita commitments since it will lead to increased unemployment,” she pointed out.
Under the Nawacita commitments made by President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the first is to return the state to its task of protecting all citizens and providing a safe environment that includes protection of migrant workers.
The second commitment focuses on developing clean, effective, trustworthy, and democratic governance that includes bringing about reforms in bureaucracy and improving public services.
The third agenda aims to develop Indonesias rural areas that includes improving public services in villages and structuring of new autonomous regions for the welfare of the people.
The fourth commitment pertains to reforming law enforcement agencies, while the fifth aims to improve the quality of life that comprises the educational quality and public health services.
The sixth agenda highlights increasing productivity and competitiveness, while the seventh targets promoting economic independence by developing the strategic domestic sectors.
The eighth commitment emphasizes overhauling the character of the nation, and the ninth stresses on strengthening the spirit of “unity in diversity” and social reform. (T/RS5/RS1)
