OIC Summit in Jakarta Expected to Bring Back Global Attention to Palestine
Jakarta, 27 Jumadil Awwal 1437/6 March 2016 (MINA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has expressed optimism that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) in Jakarta will bring back the Palestinian cause to the forefront of political issues in the region.
Based on this belief, the OIC member countries initiated to hold the extraordinary summit in Jakarta from March 6 to 7.
Retno some time ago had ever warned the Palestinian issue is a task that has not been resolved. Concern for the plight of the Palestinians are the strong reasons for the Islamic world to sit together to unite their views and efforts, after their odds in recent years on the issue of Syria and Yemen.
In addition to restoring the Palestinian issue to the world radar, Retno hopes the OIC Extraordinary Summit will produce a unity among Palestinian factions. Similarly, the OIC members themselves are expected to come together to achieve peace in the country.
Resolutions and declaration of the summit are expected to be realised in order to restoring Palestinian issue to the international radar. The leaders should realise concrete decisions that could end up occupation in Palestine land, said Middle East analyst from the University of Indonesia (UI) Machmudi Yon.
“This summit is expected to issue the Jakarta Declaration , which should be immediately implemented and fully supported by the members of the OIC,” Yon said.
He also said the issue of Palestine is a serious problem that must be resolved fairly. “All the members of the OIC have a moral responsibility to help the establishment of an independent and sovereign of Palestinian state,” he said.
The existence of the OIC, Yon added, will be seen from its success in the realization of Palestinian independence. because it is also one of the reasons the OIC was initiated.
Yon said it was almost 45 years since the OIC was officially established in 1971, the completion of the issue in Palestine remains unsure. Even the escalation of Israeli raids, killing, occupation remains high.(L/R04/R07)
