Gaza, 18 Rabi’ul Akhir 1438/17 January 2017 (MINA) – Palestinian specialists and lawmakers have called for necessarily finding radical solutions to the electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip and avoiding temporary and piecemeal solutions.

This came during a round table meeting on the power crisis held in Gaza City with the participation of Palestinian lawmakers from Hamas, Fatah and other factions, and specialists in the electricity sector, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.

The participants in the meeting agreed on the need to establish, under the auspices of the Egyptian government, a power plant in the northern Sinai funded by Palestine and Arab countries to fulfill the electricity needs of Gaza.

They also stressed the importance of rehabilitating and developing the power plant and the electricity grid in Gaza, and forming a council responsible for following up the process of raising fees for electricity supply and paying the expenses of operating the power plant.
