Jeddah, MINA – Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen expressed the hope that the International Conference of Muslim Scholars on Peace and Stability in Afghanistan would produce results in facilitating the process of Afghan national reconciliation and halting all acts of terrorism and violent extremism that contradict the teachings of Islam.

Al-Othaimeen affirmed that the conference, to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in the cities of Jeddah and Makkah on July 10-11, respectively, comes in implementation of the resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), UNA reported.

It aims to refute the misinterpretations of the Islamic teachings by terrorist groups, delegitimizing their actions and propaganda in light of the true teachings of Islam, as well as creating an environment conducive to peaceful reconciliation.

The secretary general pointed out that the conference will bring together 105 of the most prominent Muslim scholars from a number of countries including Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Sudan and Morocco.(R/R04/RS5)
