INDONESIA’S AGRICULTURAL SECTOR GROWS POSITIVELY
Jakarta, 9 Dhulhijjah 1436/23 September 2015 (MINA) – The Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Suryamin said several sub-sectors have been persistently increasing in the midst of slow economic development. Antaranews reported.
“The sub-sectors that show increase are fisheries and plantation. They even exceed the national growth. The agricultural sector has an important role in raising economy and promoting national development,” said Mr. Suryamin at his office, Tuesday (9/22).
According to him, the rapid growth in agricultural sector is able to absorb a third of Indonesian workforce. It is not surprising that President Jokowi has announced that agricultural sector is Indonesia’s economy booster.
Even so, Mr. Suryamin said that the increase has yet been used properly. For example, the large consumption of beef should have been diverted to fish consumption.
“If fish consumption increases, I’m sure there will be many people who want to be fishermen. Therefore, we need to continue to promote agricultural sector as one of the government’s priorities,” he said. (T/P008/R03)
