Indonesian FM to Visit Kabul, Discuss About Afghan Peace Talks

Kabul, MINA – Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi will arrive in Kabul on Monday (Nov. 6) to discuss with government officials the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

She is expected to visit Afghanistan and reiterate Jakarta’s support for peace efforts, the Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Armanata Nasir said. Adding that the Indonesian government is committed to play a supportive role in Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

The Afghan Foreign Affairs Ministry (MoFA), meanwhile, said the Acting Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani will meet his counterpart to discuss about the main sources of terrorists’ financing and training camps in Pakistan.

“The Indonesian Foreign Minister will come to Kabul on Monday and will discuss about peace talks and empowerment of Afghan women,” ariananews.af reported, citing MoFA Deputy Spokesman, Sebghatullah Ahmadi.

Indonesia has so far trained hundreds of Afghans through many programs in various areas, including agriculture, law enforcement, women’s empowerment and state administration.

The due visit of Indonesian FM to Kabul comes months after President Ashraf Ghani met his Indonesian counterpart Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Jakarta, where Mr. Widodo stressed on Indonesia’s commitments to rebuilding Afghanistan in multiple areas including support with peace building and reconciliation efforts as well as capacity building for Afghan officials.
