Jakarta, MINA — We live in an era where the small screen in our hands has become the ruler of hearts. K-Dramas — short for Korean dramas — are no longer mere entertainment; they have transformed into an addiction captivating millions. Many watch them for “light entertainment,” but unknowingly, their hearts, minds, and life values are subtly influenced and dominated by a culture outside of faith. The tragedy begins when entertainment turns into guidance, and leisure becomes a drug gradually diverting the life path of Muslims.
Look around. Many idolize K-Drama actors more than their love for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Many can memorize actor names, drama titles, and theme songs, yet cannot recite short chapters of the Qur’an. Many stay awake all night staring at screens, yet find it difficult to rise for Tahajjud prayers. K-Dramas are no longer just entertainment — they have shifted some Muslims’ focus from remembrance of God (dhikrullah) toward fleeting worldly fantasies.
This phenomenon is troubling not because watching is forbidden, but because hearts that should be filled with the light of faith are shrouded in illusions. Every uncontrolled romantic scene can distort one’s understanding of true love. Love, which should be sacred — guided by lawful bounds and worship — is twisted into limitless fantasy. Young Muslim women imitate hairstyles, makeup, and dating styles depicted on screen, unknowingly trading their Islamic identity for foreign culture that glamorizes desire.
Even more dangerous is the subtlety of this trap. There is no coercion, no threat. Just scroll, click, and smile. Yet behind that smile lies a silent poison that weakens the spirit of faith. K-Dramas teach us to dream, but not of paradise. They make us cry, but not for sin. They move our hearts, but not by God’s words. When hearts are more touched by fictional stories than by divine revelation, faith is in peril.

O my brothers and sisters, wake up! Muslims once led civilizations, writing history with knowledge, faith, and noble character. Yet today, many know fictional stories better than the history of the Prophet’s companions. We pride ourselves on mimicking other cultures, while the best role model, Muhammad ﷺ, is within reach. We are captivated by virtual love, while true love draws us closer to Allah.
Rise, Muslims! Do not let yourselves be swept away by the global wave of deception wrapped in sweetness. Let entertainment be a lesson, not an escape. Let screens be a tool for da’wah, not a source of neglect. The digital world can be a field of reward if used for good, but a path to destruction if misused. Control yourself before technology controls you.
Remember Allah’s words in Qur’an, Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 3: “And those who avoid useless talk.”
This verse reminds us that a true Muslim does not drown in trivialities. Hours spent watching could be time devoted to learning, worship, or spreading benefit. Do not let your days pass without meaning, while angels record every second.

Islam does not reject entertainment. No — Islam values beauty, art, and expressions that bring goodness. But entertainment that distracts, diminishes modesty, and normalizes immorality is not entertainment — it is Satan’s trap wrapped in beauty. Not everything sweet is honey; some are poisons that kill slowly.
Young Muslim women, do not let K-Dramas define your life. True beauty is not fair skin or straight hair, but a heart pure and devoted to its Lord. Young men, do not idolize Korean actors; true idols uphold La ilaha illallah even at great personal cost.
Now is the time to rise. Revive your heart with the Qur’an, not drama. Reform yourself, build a generation that loves Islam more than the world. Choose your viewing wisely, for what you watch shapes your thoughts, and your thoughts determine your life’s direction.
We cannot stop the flood of foreign culture, but we can choose not to be swept away. Hold the rope of faith tightly, for today’s world is full of soft yet deadly deceptions. Do not be enchanted by the transient world, while paradise awaits with eternal beauty.

It is time to say: Enough! Enough being dragged by illusions. Enough being enslaved by screens. Now is the time for Muslims to rise, not with anger, but with awareness. Rise with knowledge, with faith, and with love for Allah. True believers are not those lost in drama, but those who write real stories striving for His pleasure.
