Dozens of Machines Clean Location of Petobo’s Liquefaction

Palu, MINA – There are around 15 units of heavy equipment operated to clean the affected location of liquefaction in Petobo Village, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, Thursday.

“This cleaning activity has been running for two days and currently the Perumnas Balaroa area is already finished. Now it’s Petobo’s turn, “said the Head of the Disaster Management Agency Regional (BPBD) Palu City Presly Tampubolon in Palu reported by  Antara News.

The cleaning activity is a follow-up in the work agenda emergency transition disaster management towards recovery and reconstruction. It accompanied by cleaning debris from the building residents involve Indonesian National Army.

Presly said, the process of cleaning will be running until December 2018 according to the time of emergency transition set by the government in order to create better conditions, so that people feel safe and comfortable.

“If the process can be completed soon, it will be better and it does not rule out the possibility of the activity because there are still many victims buried in the mud there, “said the former head Community Empowerment of Palu City.

Based on the scientific studies, he said, it is unlikely that the Petobo region affected by liquefaction could be occupied again because the soil conditions are not stable.

He said he could not confirm whether the former settlements of Petobo can be entered or not.
