Jakarta, 20 Jumadil Akhir 1437/30 March 2016 (MINA)  –  A grenade exploded during a defusing exercise in south-eastern Indonesia Tuesday, killing the policeman giving the training and three security guards.

The guards were receiving instructions at Halu Oleo University in the south-eastern province of Sulawesi on to handle explosives when the device went off accidentally, Southeast Sulawesi Police Chief Brig. Gen. Agung Sabar Santoso said.

It seems the grenade’s safety pin got pulled out or something. The grenade exploded and killed four people, he said.

The blast killed the trainer and three security guards.

The training session was a 20-day program by the Southeast Regional Police to teach the university’s security guards how to deal with crime, violence and terrorism.  (T/R07/R01)
