South Korea and Indonesia Put up Stunning Aerobatic Display

Langkawi, 26 Jumadil Akhir 1438/25 March 2017 (MINA) – The joint formation between South Korea and Indonesia was the talking point at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition (Lima 2017) as both countries put up a stunning aerobatic display.

It was a historic collaboration involving eight aircraft of the South Korea Air Force’s Black Eagles and six from the Indonesian Air Force’s Jupiter Aerobatics Team.

The result was spectacular formations in the sky, thestar.com.my reported.

The Black Eagles flew their KAI T-50B Golden Eagle aircraft while Jupiter used the KAI KT-1B Woongbi aircraft.

Jupiter’s Lt-Col Hermawan Muhamad Kisha said they used modern technology and WhatsApp before deciding on the formation three days ago.

“We only rehearsed for about 20 minutes before the performance,” he said at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre Friday.

The team’s narrator, Oktavianus Olga Satya Nugraha, said the joint performance was a form of friendship which transcended the language barrier.

Black Eagles team leader Major Lee Kyu-won said the display was meaningful as it hinged on the trust between the countries.

“It was not pre-planned. We did not even have a name for the joint formation, only calling it 1, 2, 3 and 4,’’ he added.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the joint formation between both countries displayed a strong sense of camaraderie.

The last day of Lima 2017 Saturday will have two aerial display sessions, one from 10am to noon and the other from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. (T/RS5/RS1)
