PALESTINE EXPECTS INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT THROUGH JERUSALEM CONFERENCE IN JAKARTA

Jakarta, 26 Safar 1437/8 December 2015 (MINA) – The Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi expected  international supports in the conference on the Question of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) on December 14 to 15 2015 in Jakarta.

“The problems surrounding Jerusalem has been occured for years, Israel continues to carry out incursions into places of worship in the area, and now we need international support to stop their occupation,”  Mehdawi told reporters in a press briefing at the United Nations Information Center in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/12).

The international conference to discuss the issues surrounding the Al-Quds is a request by The UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Indonesian government.

“One month ago UN to our Foreign Ministry asked Indonesia to host this event, and we agreed,” said Director General for Multilateral Affairs of Indonesian foreign ministry Hasan Kleib.

Hasan continued Indonesia as the largest Muslim country in the world known as one of the biggest supporter for Palestinian independence certainly approve the request from the United Nation CEIRPP to hold this event.

The Conference also in cooperation with  the organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) entitled “Addressing the present and shaping the future of Jerusalem”.

The opening session will begin on Monday (14/12), and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L.P Marsudi expected to open the conference.

Statements will be made by a representative of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, by Fode Seck, Chairman of the UN Palestinian Rights Committe by  Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of OIC by Riad Malki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine by Said Abu Ali, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, as well as by dplomatic representatives of states.

Hasan also said that this conference will be tough, as the Jerusalem is remain complex issue, as it is still debated by the Israel and Palestine.

The problems become more complex since Israel claimed the Jerusalem as its capital  in 1980. Meanwhile,  Palestine said that it  is  their holy and capital city to this day.

“The two parties believe that the old city is their capitals, so it will be tough issue, but we are looking for recomendations from neutral experts, researchers ahead.”

Al-Quds crisis has been occured many years ago. Jerusalem which is considered holy city by three religions  is often become a problem for Palestinians who find it difficult to get access in the area. Especially now Israeli illegal settlements building continue to expand.(L/P008/R04)
