Indonesia-UNRWA Signs Agreement on Contribution to Palestinian Refugees

Amman, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi along with the Commissioner General of the United Nations Aid and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Pierre Krähenbühl, on Tuesday 5 March signed an Indonesian humanitarian contribution agreement for Palestinian refugees at Jerash Camp, Jordan.

Indonesia’s humanitarian contribution will be given to help with food and health needs for Palestinian refugees.

“Indonesia contribution shows Indonesia’s togetherness and commitment to continue to help the Palestinian people,” the minister Retno said in the press statement.

She reiterated that the Palestinian issue is at the heart of Indonesia’s foreign policy, and was a concern and concern of the Indonesian people.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister also expressed his appreciation for UNRWA’s participation in the Solidarity Week for Palestine, which was organized by the Government and the Indonesian people in Bandung and Jakarta in October 2018, which was also attended by Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki.

On the occasion of the Solidarity Week, UNRWA held meetings with various stakeholders in the country related to humanitarian fundraising for Palestinian refugees.

In early 2018, UNRWA delivered estimates of spending of more than US $ 446 million. In 2019, UNRWA’s lack of money for its program activities reached around 211 million US dollars.

The Foreign Minister of Indonesia stated that Indonesia would continue to provide support to the Palestinian community both in the form of financial assistance and capacity building programs. (T/Ais/P2)
