Incoming Philippine President to Meet Muslim Leader
Davao City, 20 Sya’ban 1437/28 May 2016 (MINA) – The Incoming president Rodrigo Duterte might fly to Sulu to meet with Moro National Liberation Front chair Nur Misuari, after MNLF officials who came to Davao recently to offer their congratulations on his election victory failed to see him.
Duterte denied snubbing the MNLF officials when they were in Davao, Philstar was quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) a reporing.
“I am very sorry. Believe me, I don’t do that. I’ll fly to Jolo and talk to Nur,” he said in a midnight press conference on Wednesday.
MNLF spokesperson Rev Absalom Cerveza had complained that they went to Davao on May 16 to meet with Duterte, but they were not given an appointment.
On that day, Duterte spent more than 20 hours receiving other well-wishers.
His spokesperson said it was a hectic time and there was no intention to ignore anybody. (T/R07/R01)
