Sports Minister Says Papua Stadium Worthy to Hold 2034 World Cup

Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi reviewed Papua Bangkit Main Stadium on Friday, June 21 (Twitter)

Papua, MINA – Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Imam Nahrawi assessed the magnitude of Papuan Main Stadium as being worthy to hold 2032 Olympics and 2034 World Cup. The construction of these sports facilities has now reached 100 percent.

He said the construction was not only prepared for the XX National Sports Week (PON) in October 2020. Nahrawi also considered Papua Bangkit Main Stadium as a new icon after Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.

“I am happy and proud of the acceleration of infrastructure development of Papua Bangkit Stadium. It can be a new icon after GBK because, It has have world standards such as FIFA standard grass, athletic track and several other venues,” Imam said reviewing Papua Bangkit Main Stadium on Friday, June 21.

The construction of Papua Bangkit Stadium is also Indonesia’s preparation if it is trusted in multi even world level. “This stadium can also be in preparation for Indonesia being trusted as the host of the 2032 Olympics especially after that Indonesia is trusted to host the 2034 World Cup which needs a FIFA standard stadium,” he said.

Regarding several other PON venues that are not ready, Menpora still feels optimistic and entrusts its development to the Ministry of PUPR. He said, all facilities were on the progress of development.

‘I really believe in the performance of Ministry of Public Works and province’s friends, especially when they have experiences on Asian Games ,” he said, after reviewing Istora, Papua, Aquatic Stadium and Softball venue at Cendrawasih University. (T/Sj/P2)
