Cairo, 24 Jumadil Awwal 1438/22 February 2017 (MINA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks here on Tuesday with Jordanian King Abdullah II about the future prospects to break the existing stalemate in the Middle East peace process, especially after Donald Trump took office as the president of the United States, IINA News reported.

Egypt’s presidency said in a statement that the two leaders discussed ways of joint coordination to reach a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the establishment of the State of Palestine on the borders of 4 June 1967 with its capital in East Jerusalem.

Presidential spokesman Ambassador Alaa Yousef said that the talks tackled a number of regional issues of mutual interest, including Syria crisis, where the two sides stressed the importance of consolidating the current ceasefire and maintaining the political process led by the UN envoy.

They stressed in this context the importance of ‘Astana meetings’ to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

On Iraq, both sides reaffirmed their support of the military operation to liberate the city of Mosul and the national reconciliation efforts in the country.

They also discussed Libya and underlined support for the efforts to preserve the unity of the country and building the national institutions, in addition to boosting security and stability there.
